Make Rent Stabilization Permanent

Resolution adopted at the May 15, 1997 Meeting

of the New York Democratic State Committee

The preservation of rent regulations is an absolute necessity for New York.  The Democratic Party of New York State calls on the New York State Legislature to maintain rent regulations without diluting any of the protections they provide.

Rent regulations, because of their extreme importance, should be renewed before undertaking routine legislative business.  Furthermore, rent regulation should be made permanent, as long as there is a vacancy rate of under five (5%) percent, so that protections vital to millions of tenants will no longer be threatened every two years.

This Resolution was written by Robert Plautz, proposed by the Reform Caucus of the NY Democratic State Committee, and adopted at the May 15, 1997 meeting of the New York Democratic State Committee.
