Making the NY State Tax System More Equitable

Resolution Offered at the May 15, 1997 Meeting

of the New York Democratic State Committee

Over the past several years, the tax burden in New York State has been shifting from the wealthy to the middle class and the poor.  To restore New York’s historic commitment to progressive taxation, the Democratic Party of New York State calls for enactment of the Leichter-Stringer Bill  (A. 3774 / S. 2344) and restoration of necessary social programs.

This Resolution was written by Robert Ginsberg and Robert Plautz, proposed by the Reform Caucus of the NY Democratic State Committee, and presented at the May 15, 1997 meeting of the New York Democratic State Committee in Albany, NY, but failed to win passage.
