Renew the Loft Law

 

 

     WHEREAS, Article 7-C of the NY Multiple Dwelling Law, known as the "Loft Law,"  has extended tenant protection to artists who pioneered the conversion of old warehouse and industrial buildings into loft housing, and 

            WHEREAS, the Loft Law has helped maintain New York's leadership role in the national and international arts and cultural communities, and 

            WHEREAS, the Loft Law will expire this year without affirmative action by the Legislature, exposing thousands of tenants to immediate eviction, 

            NOW, THEREFORE, it is hereby 

            RESOLVED, that the Loft Law should be renewed and extended by the New York State Legislature, and it is hereby further 

            RESOLVED, that the State Committee of the Democratic Party of the State of New York calls upon all Democratic members of the Legislature to support renewal and extension of the Loft Law.
