Maintain or Increase the Capital Gains Tax

Resolution Rejected by the Democratic State Committee --  May 4, 2001

WHEREAS the lower rate on capital gains is unfair to persons who are employed,

BE IT THEREBY RESOLVED THAT the New York State Democratic Committee urges our two U.S. Senators and Members of Congress to support legislation that would oppose any further reduction of the capital gains tax and consider raising such tax until it is equal to the tax on earned income.

This resolution was written by Robert Ginsberg, adopted by the Manhattan Caucus and the Reform Caucus of the NY Democratic State Committee, but failed of adoption at the meeting of the Democratic State Committee in Albany, NY on May 4, 2001
